Testing and profiling warm and live migration in bhyve

When talking about cluster and grid computing, one of the main challenges is the way we can share the resources, in a secure manner, to users. One of the solutions that can be used for that is virtualization. Sometimes, in order to load balance the activity on the cluster’s nodes, some virtual machines needs to be moved from one node to another, i.e. they have to be migrated. For that, warm and live migration features were added to bhyve. In warm migration, the guest activity is suspended while the virtual machine is moved to another system, while in live migration, the guest is moved while it is still running. In order to improve the two migration procedures, we must first run tests (including stress tests) and observe the behavior, with a focus on the network usage and the downtime
