The Technical BSD Conference

Julio Merino

Julio has been involved with BSD systems since the early 2000s, being a member of the NetBSD project since 2002 and of the FreeBSD project since 2013.

For the last 6 years, Julio's main work area has been the development of the infrastructure to equip both systems with an automated test suite, with the final goal of ensuring that the shipped releases are of demonstrable production quality. Julio maintains and develops Kyua, which is the testing framework used in both BSDs to implement their test suite.

Before this, Julio has had other roles in NetBSD, including being the owner of the full Gnome 2 stack for a few years, developing tmpfs and serving the Board of directors for a full term.

For a living, Julio works as a Site Reliability Engineer at Google, Inc. in New York City, ensuring that the shared storage infrastructure works 24/7 and simplifying its maintenance.
