Allan Jude

Allan Jude is VP of Operations at ScaleEngine Inc. where he is in charge of managing the global network of servers, and more than 1000 terabytes of ZFS, that make up the ScaleEngine CDN. He also hosts the weekly podcast BSDNow. A FreeBSD user since 2.2 and sysadmin since 4.5, became a FreeBSD docs committer in 2014, src committer in 2015, and was elected to the core team in 2016. In the spring of 2015, he published "FreeBSD Mastery: ZFS" with Michael W. Lucas, followed by "FreeBSD Mastery: Advanced ZFS" in 2016.

On a day to day basis Allan is responsible for the operations of 100+ FreeBSD servers spread across 40 data centres in 12 countries. Allan makes extensive use of OpenZFS and is an active contributor to the OpenZFS project, as well as maintaining sysutils/zxfer a ZFS replication script. Recently, his focus has been on the boot loader, installer, and implementing libUCL in various tools in the FreeBSD base system.

Allan started his sysadmin career in 2002 running a successful IRC shell provider based on FreeBSD. Working as a consultant during and after college, Allan was later invited to teach Unix Administration and Unix Security at Mohawk College in 2007. In 2009 Allan and one of his former professors started ScaleEngine, a FreeBSD based IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) provider which eventually added CDN and Video Streaming services.
